Tennessee Orthopaedic Society Honors Dr. Ken Moore with 2026 Distinguished Orthopaedic Surgeon Award

FRANKLIN, Tenn. — The Tennessee Orthopaedic Society (TOS) proudly recognized Ken Moore, MD, as the recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Orthopaedic Surgeon Award during the Society’s Annual Meeting, held July 31–August 1 at the Cool Springs Marriott in Franklin, Tennessee. The award was presented by TOS President Eric N. Bowman, MD, in recognition of Dr. Moore’s extraordinary career as an orthopaedic surgeon, physician leader, public servant, and advocate for community health.The Distinguished Orthopaedic Surgeon Award is among the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society’s highest honors, recognizing individuals whose careers have exemplified excellence in patient care, leadership, service to the profession, and lasting contributions to their communities.

Dr. Moore’s career has spanned nearly three decades in orthopaedic surgery following completion of his residency at Campbell Clinic in 1975. Throughout his distinguished medical career, he served as Chief of Staff at Maury Regional Hospital and held leadership roles as president of the Tennessee Orthopaedic Society, the Tennessee Hand Society, and the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. He also served on the Board of Councilors for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and, following retirement from clinical practice, taught orthopaedic surgery in Bhutan and Ethiopia through the Orthopaedic Overseas program.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Moore has dedicated himself to public service. As the 31st Mayor of Franklin and the city’s second physician mayor, he has led the community with a focus on health, sustainability, and quality of life. His leadership has earned numerous statewide and regional honors, including Tennessee Mayor of the Year, recognition from the Tennessee Municipal League, and the Hank Thomas Award for leadership and integrity. He currently serves on the State of Tennessee Opioid Abatement Council, continuing his commitment to improving public health across the state.

Dr. Moore has also demonstrated a lifelong commitment to humanitarian service. As medical director of the Shalom Foundation, he has provided free orthopaedic care to underserved children in Guatemala and helped establish an outpatient surgery center that continues to expand access to specialized care. His dedication to improving lives extends well beyond the operating room, reflecting a career defined by compassion, leadership, and service.
